Ep 32 What’s Your Mindfulness Quotient? Part 1

PODCAST EPISODE 32

In today’s episode, we talk about IQ, EQ and how to develop your MQ (Mindfulness Quotient).

IQ (Intelligence Quotient) is a total score derived from several standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence.

The abbreviation “IQ” was coined by the psychologist William Stern for the German term Intelligenzquotient, his term for a scoring method for intelligence tests he advocated in a 1912 book.

There’s EQ (Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient,) the capability of individuals to recognize their own, and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt environments or achieve one’s goal(s).

Although the term first appeared in a 1964 paper by Michael Beldoch, it gained popularity in the 1995 book by that title, written by the author, psychologist, and science journalist Daniel Goleman.

And now I’m creating MQ: Mindfulness Intelligence or Mindfulness Quotient.

Mindfulness is a non-judgmental, receptive mind state in which one observes thoughts and feelings as they are, without trying to suppress or deny them.

We cannot ignore our pain and feel compassion for it at the same time. At the same time, mindfulness requires we not be so “over-identified” with thoughts and feelings, that we are caught up and swept away by negative reactivity.

Your mindfulness quotient is observing your emotions and thoughts without judgment. Realizing you can choose thoughts that will help you get your desired result.

So today I’m going to help you learn how to be more mindful around food and your body without judgement. And I’m guessing if you’ve been listening to my podcast from the beginning you’re going to score very high.

The very good news is, the higher your MQ, the better advantage you have with regards to your attitude towards your body, food and of course your life.

Menopause is the perfect time to raise your MQ. You’ve already had time to strengthen your IQ and hopefully your EQ, and now by processing using the observer part of your brain (prefrontal cortex) you can learn to strengthen your MQ.
