Ep 227 How to Use the Discomfort of Urges to Help You Lose Weight

PODCAST EPISODE 227

In the group program that I’m teaching right now, we are talking a lot about urges in regard to emotional hunger.

Did you know that urges are negative emotion too?

Just like anger and sadness.

They come from your thoughts.

Urges are uncomfortable, and your brain wants to protect you from this.

Eating seems like a good way to protect you from this.

Especially since it’s been trained to do this.

If you want to teach your brain something different, (think of this primal part of your brain like a screaming toddler,) the most loving thing you can do to retrain it is to sit with this discomfort (urge).

I call this purposeful discomfort.

The purpose of sitting with discomfort is to make you stronger.

It helps you learn to think that an urge to eat cake is just a thought, not a command.

If you sit with it or allow it, you end up making the urge weaker over time and YOU, STRONGER.

In the end this discomfort serves its purpose.

Cake is just cake (or in my case, potato chips.)

You get to decide.

You are in control!

Listen as I explain this and use this worksheet to learn how to manage your thoughts around urges.

Hint: you have to listen before you use the worksheet.

Enjoy the show!
