If you’ve been telling yourself “I just need to lose the weight first, and then I’ll feel better about myself” — I want you to hear what Emily said to me in this episode.
She reached out to me almost two years after finishing my group program. She didn’t have to. Most people don’t. And honestly? I usually only hear from people when things aren’t going well. But Emily came back to tell me the weight was still off and that she had finally stopped letting three numbers on a scale decide what kind of day she was going to have.
She did the group program twice, back to back. Not because she failed the first time but because she knew herself well enough to know she needed more than 12 weeks to practice the comeback. To learn what to do when life threw her off. And life did throw her off. COVID. Her son’s first year at college. A career change. All of it happened while she was in the program. And she kept coming back.
By the time she finished both sessions, she was down 22 pounds. A year later, another 7 or 8 on top of that. But here is what I really want you to hear — what got me. She said:
“I had the cart before the horse. I thought if I lost the weight, then I would feel good about myself again. The reality was, until I started feeling good about myself again, the weight wasn’t going to come off.”
I did not write that. I am not a ventriloquist. That came straight out of her heart, and it is exactly what I teach. The weight became the afterthought. That is the whole thing.
What you thought the weight loss was going to give you? You can have it before you lose a single pound. Come hear how Emily got there. Enjoy the show!
