If you’ve been grinding through workouts you hate, white-knuckling your way through diets, and telling yourself I’m trying, I’m really trying — I need you to hear this.
Trying is already expecting to fail. And that’s not me talking. That’s Harvard.
I was listening to Mel Robbins interview one of my absolute favorite researchers, Dr. Ellen Langer — she’s been studying the mind-body connection for 50 years and she is the real deal. She did a study where men in their 80s were placed in an environment that made them feel 20 years younger. Their eyesight got better. Their muscle mass improved. Their bloodwork changed. Just from what they believed. And in another study, hotel housekeepers who were told their daily cleaning counted as exercise? They lost weight. Changed their body composition. The group that wasn’t told anything? Nothing changed. Same job. Same movement. Different mind.
That stopped me in my tracks, because it’s everything I teach you.
In this episode, I’m talking about why the word “try” is a trap, how to think about movement the way a child does (hint: it’s called play, not exercise), and the ridiculously small commitment that will get your brain on your side for good.
You don’t need another diet. You need a new perspective. And this episode is a great place to start. Enjoy the show!
