One unfortunate truth about our brains is that they have a negativity bias, meaning that we tend to ignore the positive and focus more on negative emotions or memories. According to Buddhist philosophy, there are two states of emotions: the healthy state and the unhealthy state, and we can have more control over them when we are aware that we are in those states.
For many of you, food is used as a way to create joy. But my Buddhist mentor, James Baraz, takes a different angle on this. So for this episode, I want to share James’ teachings on the many ways you can create joy and sustain it through three simple steps. Joy doesn’t come from things as much as it comes from our minds, and our minds are under our control.
The more you allow yourself to feel these joyful experiences, the more your brain is going to help you and be inclined to look for the good.
