What happens when you realize the scale has been dictating your self-worth for decades? Emily discovered that her relationship with food was actually a 40-year pattern rooted in emotional eating that she never recognized until perimenopause hit.
Emily started listening to my podcast for about a year before joining her first group program. She came to me during a major life transition her son had left for college, she was approaching 50, and perimenopause had brought unexpected weight gain despite doing everything that used to work. Through two back-to-back 12-week group sessions, Emily learned to manage her emotions without food, practice the tedious powerful worksheet during the holidays, and most importantly, use the comeback tool when life threw curveballs like COVID, job changes, and family struggles. She lost 22 pounds during the program and another 7-8 pounds in the year following, but the real transformation was learning to separate her self-worth from the numbers on the scale. Emily now works in health and wellness coaching for attorneys, speaking about mindfulness and self-care to lawyers who struggle with mental health at rates three to four times the national average.
Listen to hear Emily’s honest account of why she chose to do the program twice, how group coaching allowed her to learn from other women’s experiences, and why she believes the weight loss was simply the afterthought of learning to love herself first. Enjoy the show!
