We have very little control over what happens in life, but it doesn’t mean we don’t have control over what we think about our circumstances. And that’s what I do as a coach; to help you take control of your own show – change how you perceive yourself because that’s something we have a choice in.
On the subject of control, one of the questions many people still ask me to this day is: “What do I do when I feel an urge?” When it comes to urges, you’re either resisting them or you’re allowing them. Oftentimes, you want to resist them but all you’re doing is allowing that pressure to build until it finally resurfaces stronger than ever. So in this week’s episode, I want to dedicate the time to define what an urge is, what it would feel like, and how you can manage them using a simple exercise.
For this exercise, I’m taking a page out of Pema Chödrön’s book that will teach you how to manage those urges in three simple and easy steps, so make sure to listen in. Pushing those urges away is no healthy way to manage them, and Pema’s exercise will give you the opportunity to practice feeling that urge without giving in.
