Ep 23 How Stress Makes You Fat — Part 2

PODCAST EPISODE 23

In this episode I continue with our discussion on the effects of stress on your body and weight gain.

  1. Fact: The brain and body are designed to want to eat during stress. You must know this and relearn a new pathway for your brain. In this episode I introduce you to the hormone called Ghrelin.
  2. If you’ve been eating when you’re stressed for most of your life, then you could say your brain has been trained. This is happening in the core, most primitive brain.

I went to a seminar on Nutrition for Chiropractors by Dr. David Seaman (www.deflame.com) a few weeks ago. It was so exciting, I wanted to share it with you. It’s a little different from what I usually go over with you, but sometimes a little education can go a long way when your brain is open to change.

Our brain has known since the beginning of time that food is scarce. The part of our brain that knows this is in the core of our brain and it’s the most primitive part of our brain.

The natural response of the brain to stress is to increase the production of the hormone Ghrelin, which is produced in the GI tract and its job is to increase hunger. It works normally when the stomach is empty and this hormone is turned on to indicate time to eat. But under stress it’s turned on too.

Which means anyone who is under stress, which is determined by the brain and what it thinks, will send a message to the GI tract to turn on the hunger hormone called ghrelin. That means stress = increased false hunger. You must know this: your Emotional Hunger Scale will get very negative and ghrelin production is increased. It’s unavoidable!! If you are thinking negative thoughts that are creating strong negative emotions (which is called stress,) you will feel physical hunger because of this scientific fact. It is unavoidable.

Enjoy the show as I educate you on the effects of stress on your brain, hormones and weight gain.
