Keeping up with Dr. Deb

This was the summer of falling in love with my 10 month old grandson, Sebastian. This picture is a great way to introduce you to him and also share what I’ve been thinking about this summer.

When I first saw this picture, I THOUGHT, he was listening to music. He seemed thrilled to hear music come through his ears for the very first time.

But, he wasn’t. Those weren’t headsets, they were sound mufflers, that my son uses when he’s working on his house.

Keeping Up with Joy

So what the heck was Sebastian so overjoyed about, you ask? This is what I think: It was so quiet he could feel and hear himself thoroughly and he was beside himself with excitement and joy.

Which brings me back to you: When was the last time you marveled at what was inside you? What if you put those sound protectors on your ears and it was dead quiet on the outside, what would you hear or feel on the inside? What would you connect to if you could choose?

Would you CHOOSE to pay attention to that last breath you just took, or the beautiful blue sky above, or your loved one looking at you with such love you can’t contain your joy? Would you choose that, or would you be pulled by the past or the future? The choice is up to you. This is mindfulness.

Sebastian took full advantage of that moment and connected to pure joy; you can see it all over his face.

You have the SAME connection; we’re all wired the same. All you need is some quiet and time to check out what’s happening INSIDE yourself. It’s the same connection that tells you when you’re hungry, or when you’re tired, OR when you’re JOYFUL.

May you find your “quiet” and choose to connect to all the joy that lies inside YOU.
