There is No Such Thing as a “Healthy Food” to Eat if You’re Not Hungry!

I used to think that as I long as I ate the right food and the right amount of points, I would lose weight and all would be well.

I have many clients who think the same thing.

This brings back a memory of an Oprah moment with Geneen Roth – she was explaining one of her AHA moments. Oprah had ended a phone call and was very angry. She immediately went to the kitchen and ate a head of lettuce. At first she was very proud of herself, because she had eaten something “healthy.”

Her AHA moment was realizing that she wasn’t hungry; she was furious. She realized in that moment that if she was eating for any reason besides hunger, she could never be at her natural weight or be truly connected to her body. “It’s not what you eat near as much as WHY you eat.”

I teach the emotional hunger scale and the physical hunger scale to determine what you really need in any given moment. If you haven’t seen it, click here. If you’re angry, not hungry, there is no amount or kind of food that will make you feel less angry – neither lettuce nor butterfingers will help.

However, if you’re truly hungry, food is the only thing that will make you feel better. That’s when the food you choose does matter! But most of us forget WHY we’re choosing any food to begin with. So this is where we always begin.

If you’re going through menopause and you’ve never had this connection, losing weight will be harder than ever, so it’s time to wake up to the true emotions and physical sensations that your body offers you daily to be connected.

If you’ve been asleep for the first half of your life and now you’re going through “The Change,” I invite you to “wake up.” Menopause is a time for change not just in your body, but in your life. If this sings to your soul let’s talk about waking up and/or reconnecting to your body. Your answers are within you!!!
