Last week we discussed IQ, EQ and my newly developed MQ.
As a review, IQ (intelligence quotient) is a total score derived from one of several standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence. The abbreviation “IQ” was coined by the psychologist William Stern for the German term Intelligenzquotient, his term for a scoring method for intelligence tests he advocated in a 1912 book.
There’s EQ (emotional intelligence or emotional quotient) which is the capability of individuals to recognize their own, and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt environments or achieve one’s goal(s). Although the term first appeared in a 1964 paper by Michael Beldoch, it gained popularity in the 1995 book by that title, written by the author, psychologist, and science journalist Daniel Goleman.
And… MQ. Mindfulness Quotient is a non-judgmental, receptive mind state in which one OBSERVES thoughts and feelings as they are, without trying to suppress or deny them. At the same time, mindfulness requires that we not be “over-identified” with thoughts and feelings, so that we are not caught up and swept away by negative reactivity.)
In this episode, we continue with our MQ holiday quiz to help you develop your own awareness of your own thinking and how it creates what you do around eating, and everything else. Because what you do in one area of your life is what you do in other areas of your life.
Enjoy the show as you learn to raise your MQ!
