PODCAST EPISODE 471

In today’s episode, I’m diving deep into the Self-Coaching Model — a powerful tool that helps you understand why you do what you do, especially when it comes to eating.

Here’s the truth: No matter how perfectly you eat, you can’t eat your way to thin thinking. Why? Because eating doesn’t change your thoughts. It might comfort you for a moment, but it never changes the real reason you’re overeating in the first place.

That’s where the Self-Coaching Model comes in. It has five parts:

  1. Circumstance – Something that happens in your life (like stepping on the scale).
  2. Thought – What you make it mean (like, “I’ll never lose weight”).
  3. Feeling – How that thought makes you feel (frustrated, ashamed, hopeless).
  4. Action – What you do when you feel that way (eat ice cream, skip your walk).
  5. Result – The outcome (you don’t lose weight, and feel even worse).

In this episode, I show you how to slow down and actually see your thinking. I walk you through examples so you can spot your own model and understand how to shift it — starting with your thoughts, not your food.

So if you’ve been trying to think your way to thin while still reacting emotionally to food, this episode will show you a new way. It’s not about willpower. It’s about awareness.

I can’t wait for you to hear this. Enjoy the show!

PODCAST EPISODE 470

Do you ever notice how you talk to yourself when you’re trying to lose weight? Is it kind or critical? In today’s episode, we’re looking at the way you treat yourself—especially when the number on the scale isn’t what you want it to be.

I share a personal story from my rainy walk today, and how even that ties back to managing your mind. We dive into three core concepts that help create peace with food, body, and self during menopause—self advocacy, unconditional self-love, and self-acceptance. I also talk about how these ideas helped me lose weight for good after I stopped dieting and started listening to my body. And even though I’m now in my 70s, these practices are still helping me—so much so that I’m starting to explore what I’m calling 70-o-pause (because turning 70 deserves a pause too).

If you’re struggling with self-criticism, especially when it comes to your weight, you don’t want to miss this episode. Enjoy the show!

PODCAST EPISODE 468

Have you ever struggled with knowing when to stop eating? Or maybe you feel guilty throwing food away, so you finish everything on your plate—even when you’re full?

Today, I’m sharing a powerful letter from a listener, Roz, whose journey mirrors my own. Roz spent years following diet rules instead of listening to her body. She grew up fearing hunger, hoarded Weight Watchers points, and cycled through fasting and bingeing. But through mindful eating, she started recognizing hunger cues, letting go of old food rules, and finding peace with food. In this episode, I read her letter, reflect on my own experiences, and share insights on how you, too, can stop the dieting cycle and trust your body again.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re at war with food and your body, this episode is for you. Tune in now to hear Roz’s story and take the first step toward food freedom. Enjoy the show!
